Winter’s Morning Sunshine

Winter Inspiration
As I wake up this morning, I am looking out on the most beautiful crisp, frosty winter’s morning and so I thought it apt to share these inspirational thoughts with you.
I was talking about winter, a few years ago now, and saying how hard it was, and the wise old lady I was talking to gave me these pearls of wisdom: “Mandy, life is meant to be hard, if it were easy, we would learn nothing”. She then went on to say, “The secret is this: as soon as you accept that life is hard, it becomes easy because you stop fighting it all the time”. At first glance, perhaps not the most inspirational thoughts or inspirational of advice, but as I thought more deeply about her words, I realised the profoundeness of what she was actually saying.
It is the richness and diversity of our experiences that truly shapes who we are and, more importantly, who we are becoming. There is a native American saying: ‘You can never step into the same river twice’, meaning that, just like life, the river is constantly flowing, and so each time you step into that river, you are in effect stepping into a totally new experience. The old river has moved on. A river can never become trapped in the past, it can only flow forward. Anytime a river becomes ‘stuck’ and stops flowing, it will become stagnant. And because of this transparency, it makes it very easy to see where the blockage is and clear out the debris. Perhaps that is why water is perceived as the most powerful of all the 5 elements. It is this ability to constantly move forward. To be a new river.
I think this is a wonderful metaphore for life. Each time we step into an experience, no matter how familiar it may seem, life has in fact moved on. We have moved on. At that moment, we are stepping into a brand new ‘river’. We can take the old ‘me’ with us and struggle against the current, or we can accept that in life, just as in the river, sometimes there will be blockages, accept the challenge, and by accepting that in this moment life is hard, we can let go and let it become easy, because we did not expect it to be any other way.
One of the affirmations that I am currently working on is: “Every day I am Becoming A More Magnificent Version Of Me”. I love that because it reminds us that we are not here to change who we are at our core, we are here to discover who we really are, how powerful we really are, and embrace all that life has to offer.
I hope that you can take something away from the insights I have just shared here and next time you step into that river, I will be waiting on the opposite bank, and I look forward to welcoming a more Magnificent Version of You.
