Success Strategies – 2 Little Words That Make All The Difference

Action terrier

 There are many different success strategies. So many in fact that you could probably waste several lifetimes just studying the theory behind all the different success strategies out there, and never actually get round to getting the job done!  For me, there are just two words that count, and once you understand fully the implied meaning behind those two words, you can hang any number of success strategies you want onto them and make them fit.

Those two words are:  ‘Action’ and  ‘Tenacity’.                                             

Action: understand what action needs to be taken and then take MASSIVE action. All out, Full out, no holds barred, both feet in, boots and all sort of action. The type of massive action that action man (or woman) would be proud to take. It is no good sitting at home thinking about what action needs to be taken. You need to be out there taking the action.  A great quote that I heard a while back goes something like this:

 ”Every man or woman who has ever taken a shower knows what it is to dream. It is the person who gets out of the shower and takes action on that dream who will know success.”

Taking massive action means playing Full Out. You have to play Full Out. My great friend Kerrianne once told me, the gap between being a spectator and a player is millimetres wide. The only thing that keeps a person on the fringes of their greatness is their hesitation to get in and Play Full Out. Because if you never really give it 100% you can never really fail can you? But if you never really give it 100%, you can never really be great either, can you? All champions aim for gold. Olympic gold medallists do not aim for silver. They understand what action needs to be taken and they get out there and they take that action. Every day. Whatever it takes, for as long as it takes. No matter what. Outstanding results come from outstanding intentions and then 100% committment to making it happen. No matter what.

Which brings me to my second word:

Tenacity: If you truly want success, you are going to need terrier-like tenacity. Just like a terrier who has its sights on a rabbit, when you have set your sights on success you are going to have to hang on and NEVER let go! Now don’t get me wrong., I am not talking about taking a blinkered aproach here. If you go headlong charging blindly towards your dream, blinkers on, no peripheral vision, you will like as not charge straight past the ball as it comes hurtling towards you. Opportunity can be a shy beast. Rarely do you meet it head on. Rather more often it will come sideways at you out of nowhere. Take off your blinkers so you are prepared for your opportunity when it comes knocking. Tenacity does not mean tunnel vision.  It does mean Toughness. Resoluteness. Staunchness, Steadfastness. Strength of purpose and of will. Perseverance and persistance – stubborness even. An absolute refusal to let go. Just like that terrier: dogged determination to get what you came for and to finish what you started. So let me leave you with another great quote by William Feather:

“Success seems to be largely a matter of holding on after others have let go” 

So let go of the strategies and hold on to the success – after all, it is what you came here for isn’t it?
