Online Business Opportunities in 2010 – What Does The Future Hold?

 Anyone with access to a computer who has ever done a search online cannot fail to have noticed the seemingly sudden and dramatic explosion in online business opportunities out there. A quick search on google, King of the search engines, reveals a staggering 74,800,000 results for the search term ‘Online Business Opportunities’. Where have they all come from, and what is the reason for such prolific rise in the last couple of years?

Well, the answer is really quite straightforward: It all comes back to the simple market forces of Supply and Demand. The market reacts according to the demands placed upon it, and it would appear  that we are all demanding more businesses that we can work from the comfort of our own home with the convenience of our laptop.  The reality is, there are very few, if any, businesses out there that can offer the portability, affordability and ease of an online business. With the recession showing no signs of relaxing it’s stranglehold on the economy, many more people are being forced to turn to ways of supplementing their main income. In the past, the ‘traditional’ solution to the problem of not being able to make ends meet, was to go out and get a second job.  With today’s eractic work schedules and increasingly hectic family lives however, trying to get a part-time job that fits around everything else can seem like trying to stuff the proverbial round peg into a square hole. For an increasing number of us, the cumbersome and unwieldy nature of a part-time job that demands a set number of hours at a set time each day, rates a very poor second to the ability to work on our own terms, utilising the pockets of time that we find available to ourselves on a day-to-day basis. It is not that we don’t have the time, it is just that if everything on the schedule is trying to operate from a rigid, set structure, with no room for compromise, there are just going to be too many ‘timetable clashes’  for the whole thing to work.  And that is assuming that with the job market being the way it is, there are any spare time jobs even available for consideration!  An online business opportunity on the other hand, may appear to offer the best of both worlds: the attractiveness of an extra pay packet, together with the ability to keep the exisiting boss happy, plus  the flexibility to be able to fit in around the 101 other things that need to be taken care of each day. The oft touted ‘holy grail’ of modern society, ‘Work-Life balance’ is something that, with the increasing economic pressures of the last couple of years, seems to have receded like a half-forgotten pipe dream into the mist. A work from home online business can be the lifeline that promises to reunite us with that dream.

Probably the major factor in the phenomenal rise in online business opportunities, however, is the fact that it is only in the last few years that it has become realistic to even entertain running a business from a computer in your own home. The advent of Broadband technology has meant that, in a dramatic shift from past experience, today’s home business entrepreneur has access to the same cutting edge internet and telecommunications technology as even the largest corporations. It is now no longer a pipedream to work from home, in today’s increasingly competive marketplace, it makes total sense to streamline operations and run a business from the comfort of your home. According to the UK Office for National Statistics18.3 million homes in the UK now have access to broadband – a massive 28% rise in the last 3 years. And 67% of us use the internet on a daily basis – a far cry from the days when you had to unplug your phoneline to get internet access and then endure the torture of waiting for your computer to ‘dial up’ and connect to the page you wanted to view, cursing if you had forgotten to load it in ‘text version only’ because the pictures were too big to make it down the airwaves!

Nowadays, the home business industry is growing at around 20% annually and so taking the above factors into account  it looks as though there are going to be  no shortage of people in 2010 looking to both have their cake and eat it!
